This dish is one of the fastest and easiest to make so that is great! Jump to Recipe To easily modify this recipe to be vegetarian/vegan is to skip the sausage portion of the recipe. That way you still get to enjoy this delicious and simple recipe will little alteration. If you’re like me this cold weather has you craving comfort food and this will hit the spot I promise. Since it is unofficially pasta month here on the blog I have a question regarding November decorating. Are you an all out Thanksgiving hold onto fall as long as you can type person, or are you the Halloween passed and I am busting out my X-mas decorations?
A great marinara sauce to use as a base for many recipes
- 1 pound italian sausage. I like to use turkey sausage but you can use your favorite
- 1 large onion diced
- 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
- 2 15 oz cans tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp seasoned salt
- 1 1/2 tsp dried crushed basil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 3 teaspoons minced garlic
-
Brown italian sausage and onion together. Drain fat if necessary in large deep skillet
-
In same pan add tomato sauce, mushrooms, water, garlic, season salt, basil, and oregano
-
Bring to simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes.
It is my duty to warn you that this recipe is not enough to cover a 2lb pack of pasta. As you may have noticed based on the paleness of my dish at the end I got a little too ambitious and combined the sauce to noodles instead of letting everyone add sauce to their own specification. Don’t do that unless you double the recipe…Oh well! As I am still so new to taking pictures of my cooking process I sometimes get distracted and make rookie mistakes. *Shrugs*Let us know how this dish turned out for you! Did you go traditional recipe or modify it and cut out the sausage?
