Happy Monday! I am so excited to bring you this recipe today. I LOVE theses cauliflower bites. They are so good and super simple to make. Not to mention quite inexpensive. I used to hate cauliflower when I was young, but now I have found so many amazing recipes that they are becoming a staple food in my household.
I don’t make vegetarian dishes as often as some and I was really excited to try my spin on these. Now I can’t wait to see how many other “chicken” recipes I can do with these. I already love the way you can use cauliflower to make the best mashed potatoes, and now I get new and exciting ways to eat vegetables.
My guy who loves meat was totally blown away by how much he likes these. I have now ended up making them a couple times for us and they are amazing every time. We even ended up making bomb left over burritos. So what I’m saying is these are great for dinner and maybe almost better at lunch when you remember you have left overs and they are delicious and already cooked for you!
These BBQ Frank’s cauliflower bites go great with ranch or blue cheese. We did a bit of blue cheese sprinkles on ours because we were out of dressing and let me tell you it. was. awesome.
- 1 head caulifower
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/4 cup Frank's hot sauce
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 3/4 cup BBQ Sauce
- 1 tbsp butter
-
Grease baking sheet and turn oven to 450 degrees
-
Wash and break apart cauliflower into bite sized florets
-
In large bowl combine the milk, water, flour, and seasonings. I sometimes add a bit of extra water/milk at this step if the consistency of the batter isn't right. It should be able to easily coat the cauliflower without dripping off.
-
Add the florets to the batter mixture. Make sure the florets are evenly coated by the batter.
-
Dump the bowl onto your cooking sheet. I like to make sure my cooking sheet has edges to keep any excess sauce on the sheet and not on the oven floor.
-
Spread the cauliflower evenly on baking sheet and bake in oven for 20 minutes
-
While the cauliflower is in the oven. Over low heat melt the butter in a sauce pan, once melted add in the BBQ sauce and the Frank's. Combine evenly and set aside.
-
In a large bowl pour in the BBQ Sauce and Frank's mixture.
-
After the cauliflower has baked for the 20 minutes in the oven take remove it from the oven and using a spatula scrape the florets free from the pan and into the large bowl containing your BBQ Sauce/Frank's
-
Evenly coat the florets and return to the baking sheet.
-
Return to oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes. This is an area where you may want to take your own liberties. I usually end up baking mine for longer than 20 minutes and then turning the oven to broil for about 3 minutes. With the heavy coating of BBQ Sauce it isn't easy to get these babies crispy. If you want them to have any crispiness to them then you will want to bake longer. They are AMAZING either way.
I know I already mentioned it but I cannot wait to see where this new cauliflower obsession brings me! The best part is that if you have picky eaters this would be a great way to get veggies into their diet without them really realizing it. I know I was really surprised when Code name: “Husband” actually really liked these. I was expecting to hear complaints that there wasn’t any “meat” at dinner, but the only sounds I heard was a fork on a plate which means a win in my book!
