Sundays are meant for farmers markets. It is such a great way to support small business and the community, while at the same time you get the added benefit of great fresh produce. Salsa is also very versatile of course because it is great as a snack and a dish to bring to gatherings. It is great to learn to make your own salsa because it also pairs well in soups and with dishes such as tacos! Who doesn’t LOVE tacos!
Fresh salsa as compared to store-bought really does make a world of difference. It is a fun and healthy snack that you will now have the skills to make! The great thing also about learning this recipe is that you have the base skills to make personal and unique changes as you become more comfortable with cooking. For example on our blog you can find our recipe for latin chicken which calls for 24 oz. of salsa, and if you were feeling adventurous you can use this recipe as an ingredient instead of a store-bought brand.
A fresh salsa to use on everything.
- 5-6 large tomatoe
- 1 large onion
- 1 yellow or orange bell pepper
- 1 or 2 hot peppers of your choice
- 6 cloves of garlic or to taste
- 1-2 tsp salt
- fresh cilantro optional
-
The ingredients and quantities in this fresh salsa are really just suggestions. One can use any variety of tomato of your choice, red, green, yellow or other sweet pepper of your choice. The hotness of this salsa depends on the hot peppers you choose and how much one adds
-
Dice tomatoes into small dice by hand. I find one can use a food processor or chopper of choice for the remaining ingredients but the tomatoes get too crushed if you dice them in a processor. If you prefer a more "sauce like" salsa, then by all means use a food processor or chopper for the tomatoes as well. Put in large bowl
-
Use a food processor to dice sweet peppers and onions into a coarse chop. You can also use a processor to chop the garlic and the cilantro if using.
-
Combine these ingredients with the tomatoes.
-
Finely dice the hot pepper of choice (without seeds for a milder result) in food processor or chopper.
-
Add salt to taste
-
Add hot peppers to taste
-
Chill and enjoy
Breakfast Baby! This is exactly what I mean about having homemade salsa, now you are able to use your skills to spruce up any usual meal.
