Some cookies are flashy, these are not. What they are is pretty much my favorite cookie EVER. Maybe it is in their simplicity that makes them superior to all other cookies. They are the perfect combination of chewy with a crisp edge, not to mention that the sweet, to nutty, to savory ratio is sublime.

Grocery List:
- Shortening
- Brown Sugar
- White Sugar
- Eggs
- Vanilla
- Flour (All purpose/White flour)
- Salt
- Baking Soda
- Oatmeal
Recipe Tips:
- Cookies are perfect when a light golden brown.
- Cookies go from light brown to very brown quickly so keep a close watch from 10 minutes on.
- This cookies have none of the frills but all of the taste! Great with a cup of coffee or tea or a bowl of vanilla ice cream.
A simple oatmeal based cookie with none of the frills but all of the taste!
- 1 cup shortening we use Crisco
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3 cups oatmeal

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugars.

Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.

Add remaining ingredients Mix well

Shape into logs 2 inches wide x 1 1/2 inch tall(see pictures). Wrap in foil(see pictures). Chill thoroughly (about 2 hours) . Slice into 1/4 cookies. Bake 350 for 10-12 minutes
