caramelized brussel sprouts

Not Your Mama's Brussel Sprouts

Ingredients

  • 1 pound washed brussel sprouts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 diced tablespoon butter or butter substitute optional
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup water

Instructions

  1. Trim the bottom of sprouts and cut in half
  2. Toss in 1 tablespoon of the olive oil
  3. add 1 tablespoon olive oil to large frying pan
  4. Place sprouts cut side down in a single layer in frying pan
  5. Pour water over
  6. Sprinkle with salt
  7. Add butter/butter substitute to pan if desired
  8. Cover, bring to simmer, simmer for 10 minutes
  9. Remove cover, let remaining water cook away. Continue sauteing until cut side is caramelized
